Somebody once told me that peace is not given, but earned. We are so used to being locked up in our thoughts all the time, that even though we do it to be productive, it actually does the opposite. Worrying about things that we cannot control, no matter how many scenarios we come up with, cannot fully prepare us for what’s ahead. Sometimes it helps to enjoy the quiet and the calm.

Being more present in the now is a difficult thing to do. We always want what’s coming and what we could change. We could never be contented with what we already have, because we know we can do better. While most people would tell you that this is a valuable trait especially in your growth and transformation, it also helps to be easy on yourself sometimes. Accept that who you are is already enough. The opportunities will come on their own time and it definitely will. The first step to self transformation is acceptance, and everything will follow.

Hope

At certain times in life, we tend to drift away from our paths. It’s not uncommon to stray from our calling, to explore something else only to find out it does us more harm than good. But this almost inevitable thing that leads us astray leaves us more worried than contented. What if I wasted something else when I chose to do this? What if I made the wrong choice?

Our mistakes eat away our hope and comfort. But to let you know, a good person that did something bad isn’t necessarily a bad person. If you know it in your heart that you changed for the better and you’re willing to make up for those mistakes, that’s good enough. Your past shouldn’t define what’s in store for you in the future.

The constant strive for excellence and perfection—for most people, this is truly the epitome of how you can achieve a successful life. It’s exhausting and somehow draining that you always have to cross off something on your to do list on a daily basis. A rest day makes you feel guilty or even make you feel like you’re not doing enough for your future. But here’s the thing, we will always have the opportunity to improve. That’s the thing about striving for something, you always think there’s going to be more.

On the other hand though, it takes a toll on one’s mental health that one has to be excellent all the time just to make it. Every success story has a sacrifice behind it, sometimes its your health. Despite all that, here’s a reminder: You don’t have to be perfect all the time. Sometimes, learning to take care of yourself first takes you way further in life. It’s this sense of contentment of what we have and who we are now that will make us capable of achieving more. Your well being is your future.

The direction our life walks on depends on our daily thoughts. They say when you think of positive outcomes, the same will happen in reality. Personally, agreeing with this premise is an easy task. Staying optimistic while ignoring the things that make you anxious may seem like a quick and easy fix in life, but the manner of doing it may not be as easy as thinking about it. You see, this false sense of contentment we get from other people’s approvals won’t make any difference if we ourselves do not accept us for who we are, our hopes and dreams included.

From here on out, make a promise to yourself: To never compare yourself with other people’s milestones, to celebrate your achievements even if they’re not noticed by others, and to make sure that no matter how difficult things may be, the only obstacle blocking you from your goals, is you. Begin to accept that you may not be there yet, but someday you will be. And that’s a great thing to look forward to everyday.

Spring

[Acrylics on 10″ by 14″ Canvas]

There comes a certain point in life when we question if we are deserving of the things we currently have. We have committed a lot of mistakes in our lives and have reason to believe that we have already out grown them, but out of this self improvement, comes a whole another level of love and acceptance from the people we have wronged before. We believe that if we repent and we are willing to put in the work, we are capable of getting second chances. But at some point, anxious thoughts start to come in.

At this point you’re a whole another person. You’ve changed for the better but still think you need to do more in order to be deserving of the forgiveness. But here’s the thing, a good friend once told me that ‘you are not your mistakes’. Don’t let yourself suffer just to strive and try to be worthy, because you already are. The moment you decided to be a better version of yourself for the people you love is already the moment that deemed you worthy. You’ve learned from the past and you’ve grown so much. Show the important people in you life the brand new person that you are, and give them the love and appreciation they deserve too.
